Metronome

Free Metronome for Guitar Practice

This tool generates two tones, tic (330/E4) and toc (440/A4). If you need to reset anything, stop, make changes, then start again.

  • Select the BPM
  • Select the time signature
  • Press start

Metronome Drills for Guitar Players

1. Chromatic Finger Exercises

  • Description: Start on the low E string and play frets 1-2-3-4 sequentially with fingers 1-2-3-4, then move to the next string until you reach the high E string. Reverse the pattern back down to the low E string.
  • Goal: Increase finger dexterity and coordination.

2. Scales Practice

  • Major and Minor Scales: Practice ascending and descending through major and minor scales.
  • Pentatonic Scales: Work on both major and minor pentatonic scales.
  • Goal: Develop scale fluency and speed.

Do not sacrifice qualify of sound for speed. Practice perfect fret placement, on the metronome time.

3. Alternate Picking

  • Description: Use alternate picking (down-up-down-up) for all exercises.
  • Goal: Improve picking accuracy and speed.

4. String Skipping

  • Description: Play a scale or a simple melody, but skip strings randomly or in a pattern.
  • Goal: Enhance picking accuracy and hand coordination.

5. Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs

  • Description: Practice hammer-ons and pull-offs within scales or using the chromatic exercise.
  • Goal: Build finger strength and legato playing skills.

6. Chord Changes

  • Description: Select a chord progression and practice changing between chords smoothly and in time.
  • Goal: Improve chord transition speed and accuracy.

7. Rhythm Patterns

  • Description: Practice various strumming and picking rhythms (e.g., quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, sixteenth notes) using chords or single notes.
  • Goal: Develop a strong sense of timing and rhythm.

8. Metronome Speed Challenge

  • Description: Choose any exercise and start at a comfortable tempo. Gradually increase the metronome speed while maintaining accuracy.
  • Goal: Increase playing speed without sacrificing precision.

9. Arpeggios

  • Description: Practice arpeggiating chords, focusing on clean note separation.
  • Goal: Improve arpeggio fluency and chord knowledge.
